day 1 no sugar...again.... and finding an OA meeting

Today I read a blog that really finally pushed me over the edge.  In a good way.  I NEED OA.  I went to the meetings with my church group, got started, really had some good break throughs, but I can't do this on my own.  I need to quit dinking around and find a meeting to go to.  It won't be a quick fix, but I'm really struggling with the food addiction part on my own.
And recently I've been lecturing a friend about their husband's addiction.  His addiction is gambling - and he's stooped to stealing from family it's that bad.  And he goes to meetings but - as she tells me - they don't HAVE 12 steps there, it's "too complicated with all the religion stuff."  So I've been preaching the 12 step program to her...hypocritical of me since I haven't followed through on my own meetings.
Today I find a meeting and by this time next week, I will attend a meeting.
I am powerless over sugar.
Last night after I blogged about day whatever without sugar, I thought I was safe - no sugar in the house. Then I saw the cinnamon toast crunch.  ARGH.  And I justified it by saying "it's only a teacup worth - that's not bad"  And after that teacup was gone, there was the usual amount of guilt - it wasn't proportional as I thought it would be.  Teacup of cereal, dump truck of guilt.  Mathmatically illogical.  But who says addiction is logical.
I need help.  I can count on one hand how many times in my life I've asked for help.  This one's a biggie though.
Meetings.  12 steps.  Recovery.
Here's to hope  *Raising my empty teacup in a toast*

Good luck sweetie. I know you can do this....accepting and finding help is always the first step right? And I loved your OA posts - they always got me thinking. Can't wait to hear how it goes. Smooches.
I am right there with you. I need OA too...

i just found your blog... thanks so much for introducing me to OA... i had never heard of it before, so, being curious, i googled it... come to find out, they even have meetings in my town! i just put a call in to the lady that is listed as the leader... THANK YOU SO MUCH! you probably had no idea that one simple post would affect someone this much, but i think this may be my new beginning! the meetings, according to the site, are on mondays... hopefully the leader will call me back, because i really need this! lately, i've been contemplating a counselor, but this is a much (cheaper) better option!! i'm so excited! i hope you can find a meeting yourself! :)
If you cannot find an in person meeting I know that there are phone in meetings too!

This addiction is SO HARD... when you are addiction to drininking drugs and alcohol they say you can put the 'Tiger' in the cafe with Food/Sugar you put the 'Tiger' in the cage but have to take it out for a walk 3-4 times a day.. its hard! I know you can do it!
You're doing a lot just by processing it and not letting your emotions snowball. I hope you get to an OA meeting soon. Don't think too much.

Thank you for becoming my first follower at

The Fit & Frugal Challenge

First of all, I can so feel you with the sugar, it is addictive. I start out doing well, and then I just get this craving that is overpowering.

I wish you good luck with finding a meeting that will work for you.

OA online - the between meetings meeting. It is exactly the same as any meeting you know, just online. No need to wait to find one - you can go any ol day you choose :)

Hope that helps.

Today starts no sugar

This feels harder than no candy and no chips. And it started by throwing the oreos in the GARBAGE. And not the trash at my house - no, these went into the trash at the bus stop. Bye bye. (I'm imagining some homeless dude chowing down on his amazing find...) Now I need to grocery shop and fill my house with fruits and veggies! TTFN, LauraLynne

Time to come clean - and start blogging again with NEWS!

I've been avoiding the blogging world - for a couple reasons.  My eating has been horrible.  Well, maybe not horrible but definately not brag-worthy or blog-worthy.  I've been embarassed at how much I've regressed back into old eating habits. The other reason is I've been keeping a secret but it's time to come clean.  I've been gaining weight - only a little - and with my doctor's full permission.  As of today, I'm 16weeks 4 days pregnant, and this one's here to stay!  I'm excited.  And nervous. And sick as a dog with morning sickness.  I've used all of the above as an excuse to jump off the wagon (and load it with junk food to drag around with me all day).  I've had chips and candy and sugar - and not in small quantities.  I now weight 205.  Up from 190.  But holding steady and fully aware of the changes I need to make - again. Mostly my problem is that I have morning sickness 24 hours a day.  It's like really bad mot...

Pride - and why I'm grinning like a fool

So - first of all - today I got dressed and came to work.   Just another Monday.  Nothing usual there.  Until a co-worker commented on how it's time for me to go shopping.  So I head into the bathroom and look into the full length mirror.  Sure enough, I look like the incredible shrinking woman.  My pants and sweater are too big.  I'm not complaining - this is indeed bragging.  It's time to donate some of my stuff.  I'm a little scared to.  What if...well, I'm sure you all know the paragraph that comes after that.  So tonight I will weed through the clothes and donate the too big stuff. I will  NOT go back.  This journey is about moving forward. And on the pride note - several people at work know I'm losing weight, most of them know I'm running and participating in races.  A few of them know I've done races in the past (triathalons).  There's one guy that stopped me in the kitchen awhile back and we we...
