Excuse me while I rant..

If one more person tells me I'm not eating enough, I'm going to kick them right in the Gulliver!  I've been hesitant to post meal plans (stay tuned though - I'm feeling rebellious now!!) because I'm sick to DEATH of people analyzing what I'm eating.  how about you pay attention to your body and it's needs and I'll pay attention to mine.
I'm eating around 1200 calories a day.  And losing around 2 pounds a week.  Healthy loss.  Slow and steady.  Nothing drastic.  So why is it that people feel the need to tell me that 1200 calories is not enough.  Obviously it is.  I'm eating healthy food (mostly) and I'm changing my eating habits.  That's the POINT of all of this.  The side benefit is weight loss.
I have what I like to refer to as a stubborn metabolism.  I have a hard time losing weight (hello Captain OBVIOUS!).  Right now it's compounded by the fact that I'm not a spring chicken.  Or as my doctor so delicately tried to phrase it "you're not old, but you're not young anymore".  Thank you very much.  I hope you're still paying for the brilliant education that led you to that...oh nevermind.  He's actually a very nice man.  And if it weren't ME he were referring to, that would be kind of funny.
I'm also a gastric bypass patient - which puts a whole new spin on things.  Protein and vitamins are key.  So far my blood work is spot on, I've been lucky there.
Also to consider is the fact I've got an IUD (ya - sorry - TMI).  It's putting hormones into my body that cause some people to gain weight.  We're just going to assume for sanity's sake that I'm one of THOSE people.  (Dr. Wonderful is taking that sucker out next week - it will be interesting to see how that affect my rate of loss all other things staying the same).

Ok - thanks.  I think I'm over it.  And I'm ready for the next 10 people who tell me I'm not eating enough.  I might still kick them.  It depends on how long it's been since my last meal (I'm a grumpy b!tch when my blood sugar drops).

Happy Saturday everyone!!

Sorry to hear that you are feeling frusterated. The only reason why I could see eating 1200 calories a day being a problem is that because sooner or later your body will adjust to the 1200 calories you've been eating and you really won't have anywhere to go and you might hit a plateu. The idea many subscribe to is to start at say 1700 calories and every month take it down by 200 calories so that you are always shaking your metabolism up. Stick with what works but if what you're doing stops working you might want to consider this. :)

At the risk of being 'kicked in the gulliver' I wanted to say that most people probably think you aren't eating enough because A. they don't know everything you just mentioned or B. it is pretty well known that below 1200 calories your body will jump into starvation mode and while you will lose weight, it will be muscle, not fat. I'm not saying this is the case for you, but probably what a lot of people are thinking. Anyhoo, that's my two sense. Take it or leave it but please don't kick me in the gulliver... if I have one. Do I have one?

all valid points - the reality with my body is though that I ate 1700-1800 calories when I was training for triathalons and doing 2+ hours of cardio a day. I still only lost 30 pounds over 6 months time. I tried adjusting up and down and neither one produced different results. For now, 1200 is working. If the weightloss rate changes, I'll adjust. My body is stubborn. I'm convinced I have the metabolism of a sloth. Or that maybe my body assumes I'm going into hibernation "any day now"!
And a Gulliver is a general term for reproductive organ of choice - and nope, I won't kick you there. I value your input!

Time to come clean - and start blogging again with NEWS!

I've been avoiding the blogging world - for a couple reasons.  My eating has been horrible.  Well, maybe not horrible but definately not brag-worthy or blog-worthy.  I've been embarassed at how much I've regressed back into old eating habits. The other reason is I've been keeping a secret but it's time to come clean.  I've been gaining weight - only a little - and with my doctor's full permission.  As of today, I'm 16weeks 4 days pregnant, and this one's here to stay!  I'm excited.  And nervous. And sick as a dog with morning sickness.  I've used all of the above as an excuse to jump off the wagon (and load it with junk food to drag around with me all day).  I've had chips and candy and sugar - and not in small quantities.  I now weight 205.  Up from 190.  But holding steady and fully aware of the changes I need to make - again. Mostly my problem is that I have morning sickness 24 hours a day.  It's like really bad mot...

8k Race report - the details!

As a "big girl" the first thing I look for is how many runners there are as big or bigger than me. It's just what I do. At a 5k, there are usually a number of women bigger than me and many my size. Today that wasn't the case. Apparently adding 3k eliminates a lot of plus size runners. I did not see anyone my size. My husband told me there were a few other big girls running - but I didn’t' see them. Talk about a head trip - I was really nervous! The announcer released my group and we're off! Less than a quarter mile in, I realized that I may not have thought this race all the way through. Let me just mention, I'm scared of heights. I used to be terrified of heights - now I'm just scared. I mostly do fine with them but bridges still can bring on a panic attack for me. The name of this race: Beat the Bridge. Um. Like I said, I may have overlooked part of the planning this race out. So less than a quarter mile from the start, there's a bridge - n...

coming out of my slump - and a new puppy!

I've been in a slump - blog silence on my end usually means just that.  I've been struggling to keep up my healthy eating and I haven't been working out.  My weight has stayed the same but that's NOT my goal in this journey.  I'm hanging out at 191 still - so close to 180's.  But I'm really mentally struggling.  It's been cold.  I've been exhausted.  I haven't felt 100% well.  I've got a million other excuses.  I've spent 42 years making excuses.  I'm a freaking Excuse Expert.  I'm signed up for a 5k on 12/12 - so I'd better get my butt in gear.  I'm contemplating a 1/2 marathon in April - I'd better get my butt in gear.  I've lost 49 pounds and have 41 more to go - I'd better get my butt in gear. If only it were as easy to DO as it were to say.  I've cheated on my abstinence foods - sugar AND candy.  Still no chips - as if there's solace in that.  But today's a new day and Day 1 again.  And to...
